Where is my order? Order status in your shop's chat

Help customers check order status in chat using verified records, tracking links and clear limits. A practical guide to Informio order lookup.

A customer has paid and wants to know whether their parcel will arrive by Friday. “We deliver within three working days” does not explain what is happening to this particular purchase. Ahead of the Christmas shopping season, check one specific journey: from a chat question to a verified order status and a clear next step.

Three questions need three different sources

“Is this product in stock?” belongs in the product catalogue. “What is your usual delivery time?” needs approved shipping information. “Where is my order?” requires a record of that particular purchase. Neither a product feed nor your terms and conditions can replace it. Separate these situations when preparing your assistant and assign a source to each.

Shopify documentation likewise distinguishes a confirmed order, a shipment in transit and delivery. Its status guide illustrates the distinction; it does not establish a direct Informio integration with Shopify.

What Informio supports today

An Informio ecommerce assistant can use a separate protected XML order feed. Once configured and successfully synchronised, it looks up an order using its number and the email address used at checkout. The response is assembled directly from the record: status, any customer message from the shop, estimated delivery, carrier, tracking number, link and items supplied by the export.

This lookup does not use a generative model or consume an AI answer from the plan. Ordinary questions to the assistant follow the plan's rules. Order lookup needs its own export; installing the chat widget or connecting a product feed alone does not supply order data.

A status must mean the same thing in the warehouse and the chat

Write down what each of your shop's statuses means. “Preparing” might mean reserved stock, packing or waiting for one item. The customer message should explain the specific situation without internal abbreviations. Use “shipped” according to an agreed, verifiable process; creating a label alone is insufficient evidence that the courier has collected the parcel.

Illustrative example: an export says “Preparing”, includes “Waiting for one item to be restocked” and has no delivery date. A useful response repeats those facts. “It will be at your home on Friday” would require further verified information. If an estimated delivery date is supplied, present it as an estimate.

Data freshness is part of the answer

The order feed is a synchronised snapshot. A response therefore depends on the last successful transfer, rather than a live courier query for every question. Assign someone to monitor export and synchronisation failures. Check how quickly an actual status change reaches the chat and choose an update interval that fits your dispatch process.

DHL eCommerce notes that tracking events can be separated by a delay. Its tracking explanation is a reason to check the source when a status stays unchanged. Do not infer a parcel's location or a new delivery date from an unchanged tracking record.

Order records do not belong in a public knowledge base

Keep personal order records out of public PDFs, FAQs and product descriptions. Informio requires a matching order number and email; a mismatch produces a generic message without revealing which value was correct. That pair of details is not authentication through a signed-in customer account. Choose the access procedure according to the sensitivity of your goods and the information displayed.

Do not put internal notes, passwords or payment details in the customer message exported with an order. Verified results appear in the conversation, so also consider your operators' access to chat history. Use your own test orders for checks.

Five checks before the busy season

  1. The correct number and email return exactly the intended test order.
  2. A wrong email or nonexistent number reveals no other customer's data.
  3. After synchronisation, a changed status appears without an outdated promise.
  4. A missing date or tracking value stays absent; the answer does not invent it.
  5. A split shipment or disputed delivery has a clear path to human support.

Informio's current order record holds one tracking number and one link. If a purchase ships in several parcels, do not treat a single tracking reference as the complete picture. Check the presentation in your customer portal or pass the case to support. The chat does not itself change addresses, cancel orders or decide complaints.

Start with one verifiable scenario

Choose a normal order, prepare a test export and follow the whole journey as a customer would. Check whether they receive the correct status and know what to do next. Counting automated answers without this check does not tell you whether you helped.
